As the Indian market grows, component supply is proving to be a large issue

The Indian auto component industry is expected to see growth slow dramatically from 34 percent year-on-year (y/y) in FY 2010/11 to 12-15 percent of in 2011/12, according to the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA).

In addition, the investments are expected to grow to USD3 billion this year as companies widen their production base, compared to USD2-2.25 billion in FY2010/11. Meanwhile, ACMA proposed the need for labour reforms that allow layoffs of permanent employees during a slowdown or other issues. "We would like to have all employees as permanent as we invest a lot on them. However, we are not allowed to layoff if there is any ups and downs in the market. The efficiency and capability issues of a worker are also there," said ACMA vice-president Arvind Kapur.
